88 Balancing Athletics & Sports


Balancing school and sports can be as easy if you are prepared and plan ahead. Planning your time is very important. Two ways to make sure that you are on time is to put important dates in your calendar and then set  timers on your phone to make sure you are on time. Another thing is to always stay ahead and make sure you’re not falling behind. Making sure to take time to relax is a very important step into balancing school and sports. You always need time to stop and relax. “Finding balance probably starts with setting realistic goals for yourself. If you set goals that are too high, you’ll end up wearing yourself out, feeling frustrated and disappointed in yourself for not achieving your goals.” (Hanson)

Using travel time is a helpful technique when trying to balance sports and college.. Always take advantage of your resources. Study hall and tutoring are great resources. These resources can keep you from failing a class. Knowledge is power and when you’re having a rough time in a class the extra work will get you to where you need to be. “Your education at college involves more than countless hours of studying, so learn how you best study and prepare for exams — and then adjust your schedule accordingly. Spending too much time studying can actually lead to burn-out and produce a negative impact on your academic performance. Too little studying and/or cramming can also lead to disaster. So, along with realistic goals, develop a study schedule that works best for you.”(Hanson)

Planning your week can also be a very important step into making it as easy as it can be on you. By planning your week you will know everything that is happening a week ahead and knowing that will help you stay on track.

Reducing stress during class and during tests is a very important part.“If students do not feel adequate or prepared to cope with the new environment of a college campus, they could easily become susceptible to depression and anxiety,”(Loretto)  Maintaining a positive learning environment is a key factor when trying to reduce stress. Talking about your classes and grades with a friend or a teacher can be helpful.”Creating a work-life balance can be challenging for many people but for college students, a lack of balance can become overwhelming if healthy living and wellness aren’t factored into the overall equation.”(Loretto) Managing your sleep schedule to where you are  getting 6 to 8 hours of sleep will make you feel better throughout the day to help your learning and focusing reach max potential.

Going into class and listening instead of just being there will reduce stress also because you will get the knowledge your teacher is trying to get out instead of just sitting there and not learning anything. Making time for your hobbies is very important. You will need to do other stuff other than class. If your life is all about work and no play, this will make you stress too much. Keeping focused on your studies and not letting other stuff distract you is a great technique. Listening to music while you study will reduce stress and relax your mind to make you have a healthy learning environment

Balance in school and sports and reducing stress during class and tests are very valuable throughout the whole year. Balancing school and sports can be easy, but hard if you do not manage it right. Using your resources it’s always something to remember. Reducing stress keeps you level and to your maximum potential to learn the stuff you need to know and pass college.

The one thing that know one ever taught us was how to deal with college during a pandemic. Never in my life would I have thought that I would be going to college wearing a mask in being in level 4 lockdown. Freshman year of college is stressful enough without all this added pressure. I was at college one day and then the next I was at home doing all online classes. People can’t teach you stuff like this. Situations like these are when you show your true self and you say I am going to make it know matter what the world throws at me and I will keep on smiling as I go through it.
