Import from a Word Document

Pressbooks includes an import tool that allows you to import content from several sources, including Word (.docx) documents. This importer will bring in all your chapters along with basic styling choices you’ve made (italic, bold, headings, etc). Note this import tool is rudimentary and currently does not import lists or alt-text for images. Footnotes imported in a Word document will need to be converted into Pressbooks shortcode by clicking the ‘Convert MS Word Footnotes’ button.

Follow the instructions on this page of the Pressbooks User Guide to prepare a Word document and import it into Pressbooks. Note that for the import to work smoothly, you must prepare your Word document formatted with appropriate styles and headings. When you do this, Pressbooks will detect the styles you have selected and bring them into this digital publishing took intact.
