By the end of this chapter, the learner will be able to do the following:

Lesson 1: Signs, Signals, and Pavement Markings

  • Classify signs, signals, and pavement markings
  • Describe how signs, signals and pavement markings regulate traffic

Lesson 2: Search & Identify

  • Identify and give examples of how vision and path restrictions adversely affect the driving environment.
  • Summarize the SIM system.
  • Explain the importance of checking that the vehicle path is clear before putting the vehicle into motion
  • Explain and demonstrate MSMOG
  • Demonstrate the use of adequate space and proper searching patterns

Lesson 3: Stopping Locations

  • Identify different stopping locations and explain their purposes

Lesson 4: Entering and Exiting Traffic

  • Apply the procedure and searching technique used for entering and exiting traffic
  • Describe the correct method to park on a hill

Lesson 5: Searching & Yielding at Intersections

  • Demonstrate effective searching strategies at intersections
  • Identify and apply yielding responsibilities when interacting at intersections
  • Determine solutions to various vision and path restrictions
