Lesson Five: Turn Around Maneuvers (4.5)

Turnaround maneuvers are used when you need to change direction such as when you miss a turn. The safest way to manage this is to go around the block or driving through a parking lot, if allowed.  Keep in mind that parking lots are a higher risk due to their confined space, increased foot traffic, backing vehicles, and more vehicles in the area.  If those are not options, such as a dead end street, a turnaround maneuver can be used. Use SIM to determine which location and which turnaround option is best for the situation.

What should you consider before choosing a location to make a turnaround maneuver?

Additional Turnaround Options- Whichever turn around option you decide, SIM applies.

  • Right alley turnaround
  • Left alley turnaround
  • 3 Point/Y-turnaround
  • U-turn
